What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?
There are two types of Eyelid Surgery currently carried out in the UK – Upper Eyelid Surgery and Lower Eyelid Surgery.
Upper Eyelid Surgery is now a very common cosmetic surgery procedure undertaken in the UK and is designed to remove extra skin and fat which leaves the upper eyelid tighter.
Lower Eyelid Surgery is a procedure that deals with bags under the eyes by removing excess skin and fat, which smooths the lines between the lower eyelid and the cheeks.
Scars from either surgery usually fade very quickly and become invisible within a few weeks. You may experience swelling and bruising which generally lasts for up to seven days after the procedure.
How can negligence cause issues with or after my Eyelid Surgery?
In the vast majority of cases, Eyelid Surgery is performed successfully and with minor and expected side effects.
There are however occasions where the surgery is perhaps not completed correctly due to negligence – it could be that the surgeon is inexperienced in doing the surgery or the surgeon has made an unreasonable error. It may be that you were not suitable for surgery, but the team decided to proceed in any event.
Any such negligence can lead to surgery that is unsuccessful, and as a result, the following side effects may be evident, though this is not an exhaustive list:
• Consistent bleeding
• Increased swelling
• Damage to your eyes and the muscles surrounding them
• Partial or complete blindness in one or both eyes
It is important to note that not all undesired results are as a result of negligence, but if it is, you may be eligible for compensation.
