Botox Treatment Errors

What are Botox and Dermal Fillers?

Botox is the known name of Botulinum toxin; it blocks a chemical that causes muscle contraction which means that Botox causes temporary muscle paralysis and is used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, lines and crow’s feet on your face. Botox is injected directly into the facial muscles using a very small needle, and there is no need to be sedated while the treatment is completed. Most people can resume their normal activities straight away.

Dermal Fillers are becoming increasingly popular and are used to increase the volume of deep wrinkles and lines, including around the mouth, chin and smile areas, amongst others, with the aim of providing a smooth and softened skin tone which claims to enhance your features further. The Fillers are injected under the skin using a small needle.

The use of Botox is not just confined to cosmetic procedures, but it is this which we concentrate on here. Often the treatment is provided on a private basis and responsibility for any problems may lie with the individual clinician rather than the Hospital but could be both.

How can negligence cause issues during or after my Botox or Dermal Fillers treatment?

While it is suggested that there have not been any severe complications after the use of Botox, side effects that have been noted that could occur include:
•    an increased weakening of the muscles that have been injected with Botox
•    paralysis of muscles adjacent to the injection sites
•    if injecting above the eyebrows, there is a risk of slight drooping

The Dermal Filler industry has grown considerably over the past few years, and while many experienced practitioners are suitably qualified to carry out the treatment, there are unfortunately many who are inexperienced and unqualified. Such practitioners do not need to register with any regulatory body, and they do not have to prove that they are up-to-date with their skills set either. All of this can lead to someone providing you with an inadequate and negligent treatment. It is important to note that not all undesired results are due to negligence, but if it is, then you may be eligible for compensation.

What do I do if I believe I have been a victim of negligence?
