What is a Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?
Rhinoplasty, or a ‘nose job’ as its more commonly known in the UK, aims to reshape the nose in a number of different ways, such as increasing or decreasing its size, changing the shape or changing the size of your nostrils. Many people undergo the operation to boost their self-confidence, although the procedure is also used to rectify deviated septum’s and repair broken noses.
It is often possible for the surgeon to do the surgery through your nostrils, or they may need to make a small incision in your nose instead. Either way, these details should be discussed before your operation. The surgery takes typically up to three hours, and you will likely have to spend a night in the hospital afterwards.
These are more regularly performed in private hospitals on a private paying basis, but can also be performed under the NHS. When undergoing treatment, it is worth finding out who is ultimately responsible should things go wrong. Sometimes it is the surgeon (so you would have to ensure they have adequate insurance) or the Hospital, or both.
How can negligence cause issues during or after my nose job?
In the vast majority of cases, Rhinoplasty is performed successfully and with only expected minor side effects.
There are however occasions where the surgery is perhaps not completed correctly due to negligence – it could be that the surgeon is inexperienced in doing the operation, or that something went wrong that wasn’t accounted for beforehand. It may be that you were not a good candidate for surgery but they proceeded regardless.
Any such negligence can lead to surgery that is unsuccessful, and as a result, the following side effects may appear:
• Difficulties with breathing after the operation
• Obvious injuries to your eyes and eye sockets
• Constant bleeding from your nose
• Unable to smell
It is important to note that not all undesired results are due to negligence, but if they are, you may be entitled to compensation.
What do I do if I believe I have been a victim of negligence?
If you believe that you have experienced negligence during or after your nose job, you will, of course, be feeling hurt and upset, and you will probably also be in pain and need to undergo even more treatment to rectify the issues caused by the operation.
