Making the decision for a family member to go into a care home is incredibly difficult and can be a harrowing time for all involved.
You and your family member are naturally expecting a reasonable level of care from the care home, its management and its staff. If you discover that your trust in the home has been misplaced and that your family member has come to harm, you will no doubt be feeling upset, angry and let-down.
You may have discovered that your family member has been physically or verbally abused by a carer. They may have been injured or sadly died due to failures within the home. The care home may have failed to adhere to medication administration. They may have developed bed sores due to not being moved at appropriate times or given the correct pressure relieving mattress.
Any of these issues will be hard to deal with in any situation. But knowing that the issues were caused by a systematic or human failure on behalf of the care home will be incredibly distressing. You will also likely have to explain the situation to your family member, and probably start the process of moving them to another home if appropriate.
