Erbs Palsy Compensation Claims

One of the disorders that can be caused by medical negligence in childbirth is Erb’s Palsy. This is damage to the brachial plexus nerve in the child’s upper arm and is often caused by the child’s shoulder getting stuck during a traumatic birth and the obstetrician/midwife failing to perform the necessary manoeuvres to rotate the baby and deliver safely.

Children living with the disorder cannot move their shoulder or upper arm with differing levels of severity, or they may be unable to bend their elbow, although they may be able to move their fingers. They will often require extra care as they grow older to support their additional needs that have resulted from their injury.

If your child has developed Erb’s Palsy as a result of negligence throughout their birth, it will of course be a very tough time for you and your family, and you will be trying to come to terms with the lasting effects of any injury your child has received. It could be that your child may still be in hospital and will likely need more treatment in the longer term.

Our birth injury experts will fight to get the best outcome for you and will always act to get your child the medical care they need.
